Company: Eagle Aviation Service
Aircraft: Musketeer 23A
Hi everyone,
I wanted to introduce myself, sitting here in Renwick, IA, play at the Eagle Grove Airport(KEAG). I'm considering the purchase of my neighbors 1965 Musketeer, probably will wait till spring. Any inspection concerns I should be looking for? The engine is at @2150 hrs SMOH, and 1200 hrs STOH, so I'm looking at engine work getting into this deal. The price is very right and come with a very complete IFR panel with panel mounted Garmin gps. Any other things I should be concerned about, please let me know.

Bill

Bill, First off welcome! I'm not the resident mouse expert by any means, but can give you a few things to be aware of. First off, you need to look seriously at the Beech Aero Club. Its beechaeroclub.org. It has a membership fee, but in my opinion you'll get your money back ten fold easily in the purchase. Look me up there and you'll find that we probably have similar set-ups sans engine time. The big inspection will be to check fully for corrosion, and I'd want to take a really hard look through the logs. Nothing of note there, other than you want to know if corrosion was treated in the past, where, and how well. I'd also recommend checking out KLUX and how close they are to you. If they could do your first annual, you'd be set for a while. They specialize in Mouse's and will find things no other shop will. Down side is your first annual will be higher, upside is you won't rig it better or have a better handle on your plane ever. These guys are top notch and will do owner assisted if you have the time, which gives you the chance to learn your airplane top down very early on. Finally, you've found a very sturdy and dependable plane, as I'm convinced in my first year of ownership that I would be hard pressed to find a more economical airplane that is easy to learn the in's and out's of and prepare me for that next step up. I encourage you to fly the wings off the thing if you can, as cost per hour couldn't be lower and your experience and expertise when it comes to "feeling" the airplane grows exponentially as you rack up the hours. Again welcome! and glad to see another potential mouse driver on the forum.
