I'm new here, just finished my first month as the owner of a E33A. I love the airplane, and am getting my first taste of maintence and buying parts from Beech. I'm looking forward to many years of fun with it.

Hello, Joe!

Welcome to BeechTalk.

Get used to spending money on your airplane. I hope the fun is greater than the pain of the spending. :D

I got the 33, but could have used a 36 more than a couple times, six seats has its advantages.

I think thats Beech's marketing scheme these days...

Welcome Joe

Is that the plane with the Mike Smith nose bowl mods that was on Barnstormers a while back?

If so any thoughts on the mod, speeds, or engine cooling?

Nice looking RIDE

Thats the one....

The only other 33's i've flown are 225HP, so I can't comment on speed vs a stock airplane. I'm guessing I get around 160KTS TAS, thats just a guess, haven't really checked it yet.

No Problems with cooling.

It has the complete Mike Smith kit, cowl, gap seals, the whole nine yards.

Personally I dont like the way the cowl looks, I'd rather it was original. The price was right so I jumped.

Joe

I saw it to & thought the price was right also. My mechanic was not to fired up about the Mike Smith nose mod. Claimed there could be cooling issues if you did not watch it close. I would be very interested to hear more of your opinions & experiance as you fly the plane.

Again, Great Looking Ride!

Joe,

I have an A36, 176ST, with the Mike Smith mods and a heavy case IO-520. We had borderline high CHTs on climbout and cruise with the cowl flaps closed when the summer heat hit (this is the first year we've had it). I took the cowl plugs out and have not had any unduly high CHTs since. I plan on putting them back in soon since it is cooling down a bit, but there were no issues flying all summer with the plugs out. While you've get the plugs out, spray some corrosion X in the space between the fiberglass overlay and the original nose bowl as an ounce of prevention. Hope you enjoy the Bo. Looks great!
