Well, I suppose its time I formally introduced myself. I had been waiting until I was a proper Beech owner to post an introduction.

I am 180 hour private pilot with 15 hours or so toward an instrument rating. I started flying when I was 13 years old at 6300' in Colorado Springs. I finished my private 12 years after I started in 1999 in San Jose. I have started and stopped flying a couple of times - the most recent stoppage was in 2001 due to 9/11 and then I met my wife, got married and had twin boys now almost 4 years old. in October, I started flying again and I completed a BFR in November and really started getting serious about flying with the family (tired of 7 hour trips to Disneyland from San Jose in the minivan). My plan was to build some time restart my instrument rating and look at something like a Piper Saratoga or a Cherokee 6 (something that would haul 4+ people comfortably). I didn't know about the A36 at the time - I thought all Bonanzas were forked tailed doctor killers and I knew Cirrus didn't have the useful load for my missions.

I mentioned what I wanted to do to my CFI he said look again at the Bonanza. Thats when I discovered the A36 and I knew it was the right airplane. It would fit my mission and it was Beech - my first training flights and solo were in a Beech Musketeer.

I started looking for an A36 in January, and here almost 4 months the first part of my journey has reached an end. As of Tuesday, I am the owner of N917DC, a 1981 A36. 7DC has a turbo normalized (original whirlwind) IO-520, a full stack of UPS AT radios (SL15, MX20, CNX80, SL30), KFC-200, JPI-700 with fuel flow, 2600 TTAF, 875 SMOH, NDH, beautiful paint and interior.

7DC comes home to the bay area on Sunday and after that I have a lot of training ahead of me including a high performance sign-off and an instrument rating. I can't wait to get started...

Soon I will post the 4 month story of my search with its downs and ups including big thank you's to everyone who helped me out. The Beech and GA community is amazing, and I am so happy to be apart of it now.

Kevin

Kevin,

Congrats. I have flown in 917DC and I can say you have a very nice plane that was owned by a meticulous owner who I'm sure would not cut any corners.

I knew Darin recently listed it for sale but had not heard that it sold. I'm glad a BT'r picked it up and will provide proper care and feeding.

Hi Jesse,

Darin has been great to work with and it is a fabulous airplane. I jumped on it the day it came on the market. I knew it was the one for me. I assure you 7DC with have an excellent home for the next 30 plus years.

Kevin,
Please join us in Shelter Cove on the 15th.......

If you do come, please park as far away from my A36 as possible as yours is so clean and perfect, it will make mine look like a hack job.

Mike

I would love to come but I don't think I will have the 15 hours of dual the insurance company wants by that point. I will be out of town the week prior so I think I may send the plane over to the avionics shop to upgrade the GNS-480.

Mike, I think your plane is safe this time.

Kevin

Kevin -

Have a great flight home. Just completed my BFR with Scott on Friday.

Just realized that we share some other heritage. I, also, did time at Rensselaer (1991).

Wow another RPI guy. I did my time from '93 - '97 as a EE.

7DC, Scott and myself had slow and bumpy ride home from Havasu, but the airplane is home and I am thrilled. No surprises and everything worked pretty much like it should have.

It's awesome!

Kevin,

Congrats (again) on the new (to you) plane. Though if I'd known on Sunday that you didn't like the fork-tailed doctor killers, I might've left you at RHV and only taken Scott… :D

Tim S.
(I'm not a doctor, so they don't scare me)

(dang it, this note blows my lurker status - now I'll have to pen an intro one of these days)

Hi Tim,

I didn't know you hung around these parts :tape:

Thanks again for the ride down and enduring the bumps on the way back.

I went down to the hangar this morning just to see my beautiful machine and fill it up with fuel - 45.2 gallons for 3+ hours. Not too bad.

Yes, you should write an introduction and introduce everyone to your fine flying machine as well. Its a beauty even if it does have a "funny" tail. :duck:

Kevin,

Wow! What a plane. Congrats!

I have a question about your glare shield. I am curious if the light color creates glare on the inside of your windshield? If so, a nice set of polarized glasses may be a good solution - ;)

Tim - Come on Man! We need to see some photos of that thing - Bring it!

Hi Mark,

I haven't noticed any glare, but I have been wearing my polarized glasses. I have only flown it twice so I may not have noticed. I am looking to get another pair of glasses as my polarized glasses don't play super well with the 480 and the MX20. Funny they aren't a problem with a 430. Go figure.

Kevin,

I missed your original post on finally buying a plane.

You did well! That is a fine specimen of a Bonanza. I love the Apollo UPSAT avionics. What is there to upgrade on the 480?

Keep us posted on your training and adventures.

As for that fly-in...take your instructor for the flight.

Enjoy the beautiful plane.
