My first attempt at posting... I have a fair amount of flying experience but have learned volumes reading B/T for several months now. I have owned a V-35 Bonanza for just over a year and have applied several ideas/techniques gathered from everyone's post's and am thankful such a site exists. I started flying in 1975 thru a now long gone government program called the Flight Indoctrination Program (FIP). It was offered to ROTC students (ie me) who had an interest in flying. The rational being spend a little money on a private pilot's license vs big bucks in flight school to see if you had the aptitude and desire. College for me was at UNM in Albuquerque. Started out in C-150's. Not a lot of performance on a warm day with two guys flying! But having nothing to compare it to I was very glad to just fly. Had to solo to ALB Intl to the Gato office for my check flight. Boy was I nervous! Must have said Student Pilot to everyone I talked to... Somehow made it thru college and off I went to Navy flight school. Having no natural ability I studied like a wild man and swore off all the vices that came with the college experience. Ended up getting F-4's. Performance is a relative thing. From a C-150 to an F-4 is pretty extreme but like anything else you just take one step at a time. Went on to fly the F-18 for 12 years before retiring. Flew 25 airshows in the Hornet. To see 60,000 fpm in a vertical climb is quite a thrill. Now 20 years with a major carrier flying 757/767's. I have been blessed with my flying career for sure but am no where near as proficient as I'd like to be in my Bonanza. Everyone's postings have proven invaluable in helping me be a better pilot. I'm more concerned preparing for a flight with my wife and kids than I was flying around at 600 knots @ 200'. It's one thing to take risks by yourself vs having the family with you... My Bonanza is not my first plane but I would never want to go back to anything else. Did anyone read this far? Didn't realize I was so wordy. Sorry! Pictures to follow once out of the shop. Seems like there is no end to the upgrades, shoulder harnesses, new radios, etc, etc.

I don't think you meant it, or you're incredibly thinned skinned for a naval aviator. Next time, you can click the black QUOTE button in the lower right corner of a post you want to quote or the ADD REPLY button on the lower left corner of the thread. ..... Jeff, What exactly does that exclamation point do... ring a bell? I never paid much attention to it....

I retired off the 757/67 with UAL a few years ago. Also there's a lot of great military experience here to swap lies with. That 60K climb sounds like a hoot! And, you'll pick up a few Bonanza pointers here... lots of good experience. Now, we can't wait to see some pix of the Bo..... where do you keep it?

-Neal Delta. Fly the Bonanza into HHR from my home base of HJO to go to work. Based at LAX, which has enjoyed much better wx than EWR this winter.
