Hello all,

Am based at Narromine about 20nm NW of Sydney, Australia and commute regularly to Melbourne and Brisbane 9400nm each way). Have owned a Trinidad and then a Seneca but with children growing older and leaving home looking for a bit more speed and fun at the expense of cabin width and perhaps utility. Will be a Baron probably a 55 and originally joined forum in the hope that someone could give me info on the differences (other than engines) between 55B and 55E. Seneca now sold so looking to buy in next month or two.

Hope to use the forum as I am sure I will be interested in many topics in future

Murray-

By the time you've had your first cup of coffee this morning, you should have some answers from some of the highly capable BTalkers.

Welcome Mate!

He's south of the equator so you have to take the reciprocal.

I believe Melbourne and Sydney are about two hours apart if flying a Baron.

The main difference in the B and E Barons is the engine. The B was built using the IO-470. The E was built using the IO-520. The E is the "pick of the litter" on the short-body Barons for a variety of reasons. I'll let the Baron experts point those out.

Add my hearty welcome to BT, Murray. A truly great bunch of knowledgeable, witty and genuinely helpful guys & gals, as you've already discovered by hanging out here. Are you limiting your search to Oz and surrounds, or are you also considering importing from the states if need be?

G'Day Murray
I have a good Canadian friend that lives in Australia and HK who drives a E55. He loves it and his only comment is that it would be a real charm with the 550 engines. I also have a good friend who is 747 check and training Captain with Qantas. He drives a B55 in his spare time between the 19th and 1st hole. I have flown that airplane quite a lot and it is beautiful to fly. Cheap too; all being relative. There is a sweet 58 that could empty your bank account that is parked right next to my hangar, but has a remarkable history. Another BT member traded her for a G36. My favorite of all 3 is the B55, but hey I only fly a little Deboniar.
If you come to Dubbo I can introduce you to the E driver and perhaps he can give you some insight.
Also there are some great resources with the 55 and 58 aircraft that lurk in the corners of BT that I am sure you will get chimed up to.
Write often on the forum and meet new friends. Cool way to have morning coffee or evening scotch.
Neil

Great to get the feedback, sorry I cannot make it to Dubbo but suggest you give some thought to the bistro at Narromine Aero Club on Friday or Saturday night. Let me know if you want to contact the Club Secretary (he just purchased a Cirrus) Great place for meeting too. Am in the Solomons for the week - but looking forward to being back already. Search area is pretty broad, US certainly an option. Will continue to follow the forum as search progresses

Australians talk funny.

Like, when you ask them where they are from, they say, "Stryya."

But, you ever want to see an Aussie light up, ask them (and I quote): "Is that a New Zealand accent?" Always a big hit.

---

I loved visiting Australia, and know I will again, but God help me when I tried to go buy something after 6:00 pm... or at any time 'twixt Christmas and New Years day.

Plus, they drive on the wrong frickin' side of the road. I kept almost hitting pedestrians. They need to watch where they stand better. Plus, they listen to cricket on the radio... like *listening* to grass grow. Only duller.

Good beer. Plus, they show nekkid women on TV (not that I ever looked).

I am ready to go back.

Spike, re your thread of the 8th, the basic difference between us Aussies and our NZ compatriots is that they have more sheep in their country than women-no more said- what would you rather see on TV a mob of 4 legged oversized woollies or Aussie women-no wonder the Creator put "the ditch" between AUS and NZ. Thanks for the advice on the elec A/H. Regards Kevin
