I am a 66 year-old Private Pilot considering the purchase of a Bonanza. I would greatly appreciate flying with you and sharing the allowed expenses in order to get a feel for what this aircraft is really all about. We live in Carbondale near Aspen, Eagle Vail, Rifle and Grand Junction and I am available to fly on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. If you would like an extra hand on-board (even for an overnight), I am willing to work around you and pay all expenses allowed and to help in every regard.
If you are considering selling your aircraft, please also keep me in mind.
Kind regards,
Brad (970) 309-5426

Fellers.... Not to rain on your parade, but just be sure there is no "goodwill" involved here. Might get the both of you in trouble. ..... Check this out. viewtopic.php?f=5&t=225636

So the question here is this : in the other thread, who knows/understands the rules, and who is a LCS ? Charlie It is absolutely NOT goodwill. The idea that someone can't take whoever they want flying is ridiculous. As to sharing of expenses, that's another issue. Robert

Gentlemen:
I appreciate you advising caution and looking out for each other.
My understanding under 14 CFR 61.113c was that a person who has made friends with the owner of an aircraft and who then subsequently flies in that aircraft may contribute toward the direct expenses of a recreational flight given the stipulation that the "pilot may not pay less than the pro rata share of the operating expenses of a flight with passengers, provided the expenses involve only fuel, oil, airport expenditures, or rental fees."
Am I misunderstanding this?
Thanks again, for the kind and sage advice.
Brad

So the question here is this : in the other thread, who knows/understands the rules, and who is a LCS ? Charlie Please don’t make crap up!!!! The goodwill was specifically in reference to furtherance of a business. Providing transportation for a customer or prospective customer on a flight the pilot would not have otherwise made for the purpose of winning future purchases or contracts. Not the “goodwill” of a stranger with no business relationship to help him decide what plane to buy from someone else.

Check this out. viewtopic.php?f=5&t=225636Nonsense. There absolutely can be goodwill involved of the type we're talking about here. Let's leave the lawyering up to lawyers who actually know the law here. Flying around people for fun or for their birthday or because they're visiting fallen soldiers is perfectly legal.

Fellas, there is no reason to worry about this flight getting anyone in trouble. Brad isn't asking for a ride to Dallas. He wants a ride in a Bonanza because he is considering the purchase of one. I have one and live very close and love to fly. Brad is invited to tag along on a ride and he will be introduced to how well a Bonanza works in the mountains and how much fun they are to fly. It is very rare that I get to share my love of flying with someone else that has the same interest so in theory I would owe Brad. I want to see the FAR that has a problem with that. I would never expect someone to help pay for a flight I was going to take anyway, that would be a cheapskate way of working. If you own an airplane and can't afford to take someone else with you for free then get rid of the plane, you can't afford it. Looking forward to our flight Brad! FYI Charlie, keep doing what your doing.
