Hey folks, my name is Gary, and I am out of KSPA. I've gotten a few ratings, own a wing and a wheel (Qtr. share) in a 172, and I am headed to Albermarle, NC, in a few weeks to pick up a multi engine rating in a BE95-A55. Wanted to find out as much as I could about the plane and figured I could learn plenty here. Thanks for letting me look over your shoulder!

If you have time to do a bit of study time, you would be well served to get the commercial multi instead of the private. The check ride is the same except for one or two maneuvers. The written test, and time commitment for the x-country and night flying is really the only barrier but it can save on insurance and be useful in the future.

I wish I had done the commercial instead of the private, but didn’t. I’m going back soon to re-fly the multi commercial practical test in a Seneca again. The underwriter is insistent I get the commercial before I can lease my friends plane for occasional trips. Insurance market is still hardened for turboprops and owner-flown jets.

Time may nor be on your side though so I get why a quickie multi add-on is popular.

Welcome Gary, this is a tremendous site for all things aviation (and not aviation).

Mark is correct... if you're ever thinking about owning a twin, or being a partner in one... the CMEL will help you exponentially more than a PMEL for insurance.

Get the ASA Oral Exam Test Guide for the Multi - it's an EXCELLENT resource. The MEL (I thought) was the easiest of all checkrides.. if you're current. ERAU also has an excellent guild in PDF form on the internet - it's Seminole based, but an excellent guide.
