I am new to BeechTalk. Hoping to pick some brains here. I am in the process of getting a 49 Beech 35A Bonanza. Pre-Buy inspection is scheduled for next Friday. My first attempt at buying one resulted in it failing the pre-buy inspection. Hoping this one fairs much better. One question that I would like to know is where can one find a high time instructor for this aircraft? I have checked into insurance for this plane and one of the requirements is 15 hours of duel instruction from a properly certificated and rated flight instructor... but the insurance also states that the instructor needs to have at least 1000 total logged hours, including not less than 250 in retractable gear aircraft and 25 hours in the same make & model, including 25 take offs and landings to a full stop. Is this normal? Can I be checked out in this aircraft by any qualified instructor and legally fly it as pilot in command without insurance? I have a little over 400 hour of flight time myself with 42 hours in twin time.

FIFY

The Beechcraft Bonanza wiki is a good intro to the family, but the books by Larry Ball are also informative.

American Bonanza Society website > Training > Find an Instructor

https://www.bonanza.org/

ABS membership is money well spent.

Yes, if you feel lucky.

you must have same insurance company. The agent said it was the only one that came back with a quote as my prior time was all Luscombe 8E and a little C172. I am in process of doing my 15 dual hours now. I found an instructor that had similar time and the insurance gave me a waiver to allow him to give me instruction. My insurance paper work calls him out by name to give instruction, or any other properly rated instructor. The waiver was fairly easy, ask your agent but you have to find a CFI first to ask for the waiver.

I bought a 1952 C35. It was hangered but not flown for a few years. fresh annual but have been playing catchup for the last few years of non maintenance. I seem to find something wrong each 2 or 3 flights. latest item was going out to preflight and finding a nice red puddle under it. only a couple dollars in o-rings on the master cyl behind the right peddle, but it was still several days of no flying.

every time I find something wrong my first stop is a search here on 'BEECHTALK'. There has always been someone else that has seen it and posted about it. Welcome to the club.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I did join ABS and have an instructor that will go with me to fly it back. Hoping the pre-buy inspection goes great so I can start enjoying this little gem. I did fly the Beech Baron 40 years ago and this will be my second aircraft that I've owned. The first one was an AA1A super Grumman with the 160 in it.
