Hi all,

I’m a long time reader, and thought I would finally introduce myself.
About a year and a half ago, I bought a fairly low time 1974 B55 from a gentleman who had barely flown it for the previous three years. Although it was a solid airplane, the paint was terrible, and I knew with such little use, it’d be a project. IT HAS BEEN! But, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the learning. With the help of my very patient IA and a lot of reading on Beechtalk, I’ve:

- performed two annuals
- replaced cracked cylinders
- rebuilt brake master cylinders
- started my ME training
- paused my ME training
- removed and sent out an engine for overhaul
- reinstalled an engine
- replaced more hoses than I thought this plane had
- repaired baffles and replaced all baffle seals
- Repaired air boxes
- finished my ME training
- removed obsolete avionics and antennas
- patched antenna holes
- replaced boost pumps
- did some minor avionics upgrades
- chased down autopilot issues (thanks Bob Weber)
- replaced door seals
- replaced nav/strobe and beacon with LEDs
- replaced the ELT
- repaired and replaced more stuff that I can’t remember right now
- and finally, got a brand new paint job!

As it sits now, it’s a solid airplane that is a real joy to fly and works great for our family.

I just want to thank all of those who post regularly here. You’ve helped me tremendously during this project. And, now that I actually know some stuff, I’ll try to contribute as well.

Next on the list is an avionics upgrade, and I’m sure I’ll have some questions…

What a gorgeous B55 thanks to all your hard work! What did you own/fly before the B55?

Also, I’d love to be down there in Naples someday. How bad are the hangar waits and rents?

Hi Mike,
I flew a Grumman Tiger for about 7 years before upgrading to the Baron.

I’m hearing hangar waits are a year or two now, but not sure on that, could be more. I pay about $500 a month for a hangar I can juuuussst fit my Baron in.

Sweet! The fun has just begun. I have been flying Barons since 1988 and have never looked back.

Congrats on the B55. Hope I see you at APF and meet some day. Don’t get down often enough yet to use my hangar there but that will change this winter, I hope.

Mark, you've done an excellent job on your B55. Looks like you've got a Norton Radome! Who did that excellent paint job on your Baron? Was it done in Florida?

Thanks all for the kind words.

Bill, Okeechobee Painting Center at KOBE did the paint for me. They really did a great job at a reasonable price. I’d definitely recommend them.
