Hi everyone,
I'm a rusty pilot getting back into the swing of things. I just completed a lengthy biennial review that went really well. My instrument rating has been dormant for 15 years so I'd like to get proficient again. I feel like I may be starting all over with that one but that's okay. I'm looking for a 4 passenger plane to purchase and may possibly enter a partnership with one of your current members in a 182. I look forward to learning from all of you!
Thanks,
Ryan

Thanks! You're not too far away in Tracy. The A36 is nice. How long have you been looking? All I know of is an unlisted '58 J35 available in Fresno. It's in nice condition but the engine may need some work. I was interested in it but its a lot of plane for me right now. Need to start off with something a little tamer.

Hi, Ryan. I learned at FAT in the early 90s.

Congrats on getting current and active again. I had a shorter hiatus than you, but I still know how great it feels to get back in the saddle.

They say it takes an hour (give or take) to get proficient for every year you were away. The big change you’ll notice for IFR is the proliferation of GPS approaches and the decommissioning of a lot of ILS and NDB approaches, as well as a lot of VORs.

I started my instrument rating (the first time) around the time you put flying on hold. Back then, only bigger planes had RNAV, and GPS approaches were rare and still labeled GPS. Now, all the GPS approaches are labeled RNAV.

Thanks Eric! Did you fly at Mazzeis?
You’re totally right. This whole RNAV business is great. I had to look it up initially. It should be fun :)

The only thing I found challenging about RNAV approaches was giving out what the different minimums meant.

I rented at Aero Fresno, which is long gone. Not sure how long it survived after I left.

Welcome Ryan,

I am also in the Rusty Pilot club (18 months). Making a come-back soon. Learned 2Fly in ‘94 at Majestic Skies Aviation at KFAT.

Pretty sure we know a lot of the same people in the business world, perhaps aviation as well. I am a Pelco partner expat.

Maybe we can connect sometime and compare notes.
