Hello all, I joined BT a little over a month ago when I started looking to purchase an A36. I was very fortunate as a kid to fly a 1970 A36 for about the same cost as a C172, and in 2000 became a partner on the same plane. We upgraded to an IO550 with TAT TN. Unfortunately, one of the partners had an engine failure over the mountains in Baja in 2006 (most likely water ingestion). My purchase offer on 1993 TN A36 was just accepted, so hopefully prebuy will go well and I’ll be an owner again! Will be based at Palomar, Carlsbad CRQ.

I am at Jet Center, with the Grumman Tiger. Let me know where you will be. Do you have an FBO already picked?

John,

Re Ramona fly in. Is there a restaurant on the field?
I'm at KTRM during the winter, and would love another spot to go to for lunch.

It was $4.99 today.

Dave - Welcome! I’m also on the north side.

Eugene - I think I waived to you from the Baron. Still need to check out that Dynon some day!

Hey Charlie, yeah, that was me! You actually fueled up right after me, so probably my receipt was still in that plastic box :) I’m at the airport quite often, even if I’m not flying, so give me heads up when you are going to be there. Just texted you.

There isn't a restaurant at Ramona. We're grilling burgers for the fly-in and renting tables & chairs for the attendees (which is why I'm asking people to register on the web site) http://beechflyin.com

As far as restaurants go - not sure which of these you already know about, but these are all pretty easy shots from KTRM and have a restaurant. I kept this to less than 100 miles from Thermal for you.
CRQ - Palomar as mentioned here. Has a great restaurant.
F70 - French Valley is pretty good
HMT - Hemet has a café.
L77 - Chiriaco Summit has a roadside diner
MYF - Montgomery Gibbs has a Mexican restaurant that I especially like for breakfast.
RIR - Flabob another good choice for Mexican food
RAL - Riverside has an airport diner and lately has cheap gas.
CNO - Chino has Flo's diner.
AJO - Corona has a diner and when it's not Covid time, the Aircraft Spruce shuttle will bring you back and forth to the store if you need to buy anything.
EMT - El Monte has Annias which is another great choice for Mexican. You can also send a PM to Adam Frisch and pick up a case of great wine from him while you're there.
FUL - Fullerton (my home base) has restaurant too.

You can add to the list, places not really know to have a restaurant, but great:
KRIV - You can land there and go the to restaurant, off Taxiway A
L65 - Great restaurant. Just make sure you call first to get the scoop on how to fly into this airport. Taxi back only.
KSEE - By the tower
KSDM - Middle of the field. South side.
KHHR - On the field. Great place
KSMO - Not on the field anymore, but walking distance, they reopened the old Spitfire, and it is called Cloverfield now.

I am at Carlsbad Jet Center in hangar #9. If you see the door open please stop by and say hi. Typically there every Saturday.

I'd also add POC to the list. There is a restaurant on the field, and then there is a lake and a few trails for hiking nearby.

Flo's in Chino is more than a diner, it is an absolute "must go to" for pilots. It is the hang out for motorcycles, truckers, farmers, and pilots. I have sat next to all of them.

Very true! Flo’s is not only a great dinner it’s an institution, but be prepared to wait for a table on the weekend. I’ve taken my dad and my kids to Flo’s many times.
Also Annia’s at El Monte (EMT), used to be open at night: I went there when logging night hours during my rotary wing training, but sadly they no longer serve dinner.
I believe there’s also a dinner at Cable, but I can’t think of the name of it.

Franck,

Is the restaurant you mentioned at March part of Millionair or a separate place?

Probably should mention the cafe at Big Bear also

L35 - Middle of the field, south side.

I haven't been to that airport in about 30 years so this sounds like a fun trip. Can I take my folding bike and ride to Casa Del Zoro?
