I've been reading the forums for a while now but haven't formally introduced myself. Nice to meet everyone!

My wife and I live in Oakland, CA and we keep our E55 at Hayward. I learned to fly in Albany NY in 2002. I got my multi and instrument ratings in Virginia. Eventually made my way to California and we've been in NorCal since about 2010.

I bought our Baron in Feb 2020, flew it across the country from NC to CA, and then put about 200 hours on it in the first year, which was awesome! Luckily my wife loves to fly with me. So we've taken the Baron on trips to Tahoe, Bozeman, Yellowstone, LA, Shelter Cove and a few other CA day trips. I've also been doing a bunch of flights for Angel Flight West. Unfortunately, the plane had a nightmarish first annual so it's been down since November. Hoping to have it back in a few weeks with a bunch of fixes and shiny new props.

We're expecting a baby boy this June! So my next post will likely be to ask questions about flying with a baby. We're planning to do our first family cross country (literally from CA to NY) next November or December. Look forward to interacting with you all, and maybe meeting up soon!

Chris

PS - Hoping these attachments show up correctly. The look upside down in the preview but hoping for the best!

I don't know why the images are upside down :-(. But if you click on them they appear right side up again. Maybe there's a trick I don't know to getting the preview to look right.

Welcome Chris and wife, congrats. That is some traveling you did. I like the gear you haul, get outdoors.

I used to fly there and eat at Lyons

Looks like fun. 200hrs....wow that is heck of first year.

Regarding the photos. If you resave the photo in the orientation you want it corrects itself (preview on a mac works). Pics from iPhones etc. are often in the wrong orientation and need correcting for the database used by BT.

Good to see folks enjoying these amazing machines. We will have to get some of the Bay Area based BTers together.

Curious, how did you decide on HWD vs OAK? I debated a hangar at OAK, hence my question.

Thanks all for the tips on the photos.

I was initially at KCCR because I was flying with a club there. Moved to Hayward because it was slightly closer and had better maintenance options, and the hangar wait time was shorter. I looked at Oakland but ended up sticking with Hayward because of much better fuel prices, cheaper hangars (at least I recall) and there’s a good maintenance shop on the field, Oakland had an onerous yearly security training requirement. Finally I had a friend that started at Oakland and moved to Hayward and had highly recommended Hayward. We moved this year from SF to Oakland (in the hills) and it’s actually still a little shorter of a drive to get to Hayward because of 580 vs crossing vertically through Oakland. But I like flying into Oakland airport too so all of these variables could be revisited at some point (depending on the hangar situation as we’re on waitlist still).
