It’s probably not the most cost effective way. You easily blow through $10k with hangar rent, insurance, maintenance, finance etc. $10k is what I estimated at $200 per hour incl CFI and plane rental times 50hours.
Just be aware that a 172 is probably not going to be your last airplane.
No. 3 airplane should be a Beech.

Thanks. I'm still taking things slow now (though thinking about doing King/Sporty's and knocking out my written) while watching virus numbers. Ed shared a few CFIs at my local airport, and I will keep you in mind.

Fortunately for me (but not the wallet?), my wife wants something we will be able to use to travel with friends, so I will eventually be looking for something bigger than most trainers!
