Hi Everyone,

My name is Victorino Rasmussen. I’ve been doing pilot stuff since 2007/8 when I got almost completely finished with my PPL. I took several years away from aviation til 2015 when I returned to the same school I started originally, Mt. SAC’s FTA at KPOC in La Verne, CA. PPL complete Sept. 2016 at KCCB Cable Airport in Upland, CA with Tony Gadis and IFR check ride Dec. 2018 at KCMA Camarillo, CA with Joe Justice. I took my Commercial Single checkride July 2019 at Weltzein Skypark about an hour south of Cleveland, Ohio, with Stuart Corey. All my checkrides were very positive experiences. In February 2019 I went to CP Aviation to get the tailwheel endorsement, where I worked with Mike Bowers- I highly recommend Mike!

I became interested in Waco biplanes in 2017 and have slowly been putting things together to start a tours business in Los Angeles using a YMF-5, where I will operate out of KVNY, KSMO, and KCMA with an LOA issued by the FSDO.

In June 2019 I bought my first airplane, a beautiful 1948 Cessna 120 N3684V. Specifically the motivation was to get as much tailwheel time as possible so that I could be proficient for the Waco as well as meet the insurance minimums.

Looking forward, I would like to upgrade into a bigger, more capable tailwheel aircraft, but I would also love to have a faster, cross-country plane like a Bonanza. It is amazing to me that this same design from the mid-40’s is still being manufactured to this day. They are beautiful pieces of engineering!

I am looking forward to checking into the forums on occasion and catching up on the last 7 decades’ worth of progress made on these Beechcraft. I am sure there is a ton to learn before I pull the trigger on a Bonanza.

-Victorino

Welcome Victorino.
You and I have had a similar path. Joe also gave me my ticket, and I did upset with Mark King at CP. You can read the whole story in the "plane addict" thread.

Seeing the warbirds, aerobatics, and crusty skywagons at KSZP inspired me to start tailwheel flying. Much like you, I decided to buy a cost-effective TW to build hours and get into rough strips. I ended up with Pacer N8973C - if you ever see her on the ramp at SZP or WHP, say hi and we'll take you around the patch.

Not sure if you're involved with the mini-wagon community in socal, but it's a cool group of guys and girls. Incidentally, when you do sell your 120 for the Waco (love the biz idea) you'll probably do pretty well. They are appreciating like crazy.

Welcome. It is great to see a fellow aviator with the same passion for beautiful airplanes. I am willing to bet that you are the type of person who runs out of the house to see what type of airplane just flew overhead. That is the mark of a real pilot.

Cessna 120's are totally cool. Do not get rid of it, unless you are contemplating a 180. The Waco will make a great stablemate for either.

I look forward to meeting you next time I am in your area.

Best,

Tom
