Hi beechtalk,

I’ve lurked on this forum for a couple years and learned a lot. Soon I’ll have my own aircraft and still feel like I need to learn even more. So I’m reaching out to people who have been there and done that because the airplane buying process seems a bit overwhelming at times.

I’m a private pilot with instrument rating who is now in the process of buying his first plane. It’s going to be a Beech Sundowner. I’m trying to get the prebuy inspection done next week and was wondering if there are any specific issues known to exist with C23s that should be looked for during a pre buy.

Thanks

You need to join Beech Aero Club. Lots of owners and great info there. Best $50 you'll invest in aviation.

What year C23? Not to sure $50 is a good deal.. I’m a member now but was out for a couple of years didn’t miss much, if anything. Won’t do it next year. If you got $50 you don’t need you might be able to get a question answered you can’t find elsewhere, but a Sundowner is just another old airplane the gear pucks are a special issue. Keyswitch AD and Tail attachment point AD are non issues. Certain engine variations with musketeers can be problematic after that just another airplane. Beech Aero club forum is Very low volume and Handful people answer most of the questions. Probably shouldn’t say it but that’s the way I see it. Beechtalk is all you need!!

Welcome, Seth.

We're up at E45 with our A36 and other toys.

If the plane is nearby, consider Honeycutt Aviation for the pre-buy or maybe Trivalley Aviation in Livermore. Both know A LOT about Beechcraft planes.

Jeremy

I agree with Sully... I bought a '75 Sundowner last year and signed up for BAC. They have saved me so much in time and money while upgrading my plane. I paid the $50 (worth $500) and even get personal one on one help from them along with mountains of info in the forums.

Examples: Donuts, Wing Tip Strobes. Black Duct Cancer, Manuals, POH and Parts Lists, Mouse Hunt, Shoulder Restraints, Fuel Filter and Cap issues, Interior Upgrades, Panel Upgrades... I could go on and on.

Even my MX asks me now... What did the guys (gals) recommend.

Dan

I have had the exact opposite experience with BAC. I bought a Beech Super Musketeer and the knowledge and support from the membership there has been invaluable. Negotiated group rates for aviation gear has saved me many years of $50 as well.

If you own any of the Baby Beeches it is money well spent.
