Hello everyone.

I too joined awhile ago but have not properly said hello. I am a longtime Beechcraft pilot. I started flying Bonanzas, Barons and a Sundowner at a flying club many years ago when I was 19. I grew up in Boulder Colorado, my Grandfather worked at the Beechcraft plant in Boulder. When I was 7 or 8 we went to a family day open house at the factory and I was hooked. I scored all the company swag: brochures, photos, t-shirts, etc. I even got to meet Olive Ann! I longed for a P-Baron but somehow knew I'd probably start with a Skipper because it seemed like the only plane that could possibly ever be within reach budget wise. Fast forward 40 years, an Air Force and airline career, and I am honored to own a fabulous 1977 58P. It has the RAM WB STC and a Garmin and Aspen cockpit. I'm always looking for the perfect Skipper to finish my Beech story. I've never flown a Skipper, but I must have one someday.

Thanks to everyone on BT for the great advice.

Cheers,

Dan

Greg,

I still call them Jeffco on the radio at least 10% of the time. Good to hear another pilot still using the "correct" name.

What are you flying these days?

Dan

Couple weeks ago, I called from 10 north about 6:15 a.m. and I said, "Jeffco tower...", and in the controller's response he also used Jeffco. We both ended up laughing.

Greg owns and flies a Twin Bonanza.

Welcome to BT!

I owned a Skipper for 7 years. I used it to provide primary flight instruction. I like the plane, easy to fly, great visibility, and well made.

It turned out to be not so great for primary instruction though. Prop clearance is a problem. Students found ways to hit things with it... drop the nose in a low spot and zing, new prop and engine tear down.

Although it was a limited production/orphaned airplane, finding parts was not a problem for me, as it appears that Beech had a bunch made for airplanes that were never built.

Dan,

Thanks for the info on the BE77 prop clearance, I would not have guessed that. If I ever do acquire one it will just be a $100.00 hamburger procurement machine for me, no primary instruction.

Good to hear parts are relatively available. Besides, how much can go wrong with a 108HP fixed gear trainer. :)

Dan
