Hi I'm Chad from Indianapolis. Glad to join this forum. I flew RJs for 7 years, and then took a hiatus from flying altogether for 8 years after that. Recently started GA flying again and am looking to buy first airplane in (hopefully) the next year or two.

Really intrigued with Debonairs, but it seems CG loading might be an issue. My 10 & 8 year-old kids weigh a combined 180 pounds and are obviously growing. My wife and I will go about 375. Would appreciate input on whether or not I should forget about shopping for Debs. Thanks!

You'd be good this year. In a few years - dunno.

My 65 Debonair is good for 650 pounds in the cabin (people & bags). The heavier people sit up front. With the back seats occupied, nothing goes in the baggage compartment (there is plenty of room on the floor front & back).

I can fold down the copilot rudder pedals & put heavy stuff up there.

I am not telling you to fly over gross but if you do, you won't notice. But don't ever fly past the aft CG limit.

Works for me.

Works fine in my 63 B33 with 50 gallons and 75 in bags.

Nope, don't give it up. These aircraft are superb. Your concern is valid, but you will find that each individual aircrafts loading range are all a little different i.e. some heavier than others and some with a further aft empty CG. You will likely find a particular aircraft where your desired loading is less of an issue.

scroll further in this forum subject: New member looking hunting for an S or V35
and read Tom Rosens post. i.e. the CG can be moved fwd in a variety of ways and you can add tip tanks with minimal weight penalty.
