A mid '50s-'60s Bo can often be cheaper to buy than a good C182. (emphasis on *good*), but will likely be more expensive to insure for a low-time pilot and maintain (annual) . The Bo will be faster of course.
The main reservation I have about low time pilots getting into Bonanzas, (or ANY other complex SEP) is, unless they have a mentor, it's easy to buy a money pit. By all means, get a Bonanza if you want, but get some Beech experienced help shopping and for the pre-buy inspection. You'll want detailed logbooks on the aircraft.
C182s are much simpler birds, most mechanics have experience with them, know where to source parts etc. Still needs a thorough pre-buy and inspection of the logs, but the list of potential "gotchas" is shorter IMHO.
I paid $6000 for my Bo's first annual. The second was much cheaper after the maint catchups, and it was already in nice shape, and low time when I bought it.

I definitely plan on: - Being patient
- Getting help from a local/regional mentor (and/or someone like Neal)
- Continuing to build time on the 150/172 rather than rush into a complex
- Gather advice and thoughts and ideas from here, my airport, and other places online, etc...
Once I get to 100 hours (about 20 more from now) I'll start looking around the MD/PA area for a complex I can rent w/ CFI if possible to get a bit under my belt as well. If the right Bo/182 comes along before then, I won't be shy but I really don't want to rush into anything until I learn and understand more about airplane ownership! Despite the near term lack of a hangar option, I do plan to get into owner maintenance (within the FAA rules) so I can really get to know whichever bird I end up with Thanks for the thoughts, I really do look forward to learning more as I keep reading -- you all have a wealth of experience!

Jason, one other thing, determine what equipment you'll want in your airplane, and then try like heck to find one with all that already installed. (autopilot, GPS, ADSB, etc.) It will be much cheaper than adding later piece by piece, you'll just have to adjust your budget/expectations accordingly. I have a very good friend, fellow controller, who I soloed way back when (along with his wife). Years later, he was working at another facility, making decent money, and he bought a mid-60s Bonanza. He told me his first three annuals cost over $10,000 each, (replacing bladder tanks and major gear O/H among other items) and he also suffered a complete engine failure resulting in a deadstick landing. Last time I spoke to him, he'd sold the Bo and quit flying. Stuff like that can take all the fun out. Don't want that to happen to you.
