After 10+ years in N4JX, a lovely V35B with an IO-550 and lots of Smith mods, then 10 years in a hot rod Comanche 250, I'm back flying N25J, a client's low time 1974 F33A.
25-Julie has just 1100 hours TTSN! I spent 200+ of that time with her in 2007-08 when we replaced the Comanche's motor. When TBO came around again for the Comanche's IO-540 and I started flying 25J again late last year, her tach showed exactly Zero additional hours since 2008.
The client decided I should hangar and maintain his airplane permanently this time, so we booked a snug hangar at KVIS and are now in upgrade / deferred maintenance rehab mode.
25-Julie's original "back-to-the-future" radios weren't flyable anymore so we installed a full Garmin stack including a GNS 750, Front main and prop seals, hoses, alternator, vacuum pump, tires, etc. are now all new. And we've spent plenty of hours were spent rubbing out the 1974 paint. But there's still lots of work to do, as with any chronologically older engine and airframe that hasn't seen regular use.
I fully expect 25-Julie to be better than new before long and look forward to help with that here.
