Hi all,

First post, though I've been reading back over a ton of threads.

We live in Austin, I have ~250 hrs., starting back to flying after a few year break. Have 3 kids and 2 dogs, so am looking to move along from SEP to a heavier hauler (TEP, SETP, TETP?). Evaluating just how to go about that... so will continue to read old posts, and maybe will even ask a few questions as I go.

Likely will start in a V35B and am thinking hard about how to move "up."

Love the site. Hope to see some of you at the airport!

Matt

Howdy, Matt! Which airport do you fly out of around Austin? What neighborhood do you live in? We're thinking of retiring to Austin or the Hill Country and would love to hear more about the local airports. How's the hangar waiting list? Traffic? Etc.

Hi Dave! We live in Rollingwood - it's a very small town that's sort of encircled by the city (actually, Westlake Hills to one side and Austin all around the rest) - kind of like Brookline in Boston. We've been in Austin coming up on 4 years and moved to Rollingwood about two years ago from Westlake Hills (another nice town, but Rollingwood is a better fit for us). $8 Uber into town (including tip) and walk to Zilker park (downtown park - and we run the trail around Town Lake often). Food, music, outdoors - it's a pretty great city. Hill Country is it's own kind of beautiful - very different from Austin proper, but close by.

As for flying, I'm just getting back to it now. I stopped when we moved here (new job, houses, kids in elementary, middle and high school at the time - too much going on to have the time to fly regularly... and I don't fly at all if I can't go frequently). For hangar space, I'm on the waitlist for about a year now at several airports (Bergstrom, Executive, etc.), but from what I can tell if you have a plane (rather than looking for one) it's easier to get a spot. Well, maybe not a Bergstrom, but at several others. Really depends where you end up living, as there are decent options all around the city, and you probably don't want to drive through the city if you don't need to (which is why I was looking at Bergstrom, despite a much higher cost).

I'm looking at an airplane partnership (V35B) out of Spicewood, hoping to be able to move that to Lakeway. Also looking at the next next plane, but that'll be a different beast (something to get back to the Boston area in)...

Happy to talk at any point about specifics of Austin if it's helpful. Just PM me and we can connect.
Best,
Matt

Hi Matt and welcome to BT.
I vote for the SETP. That PC12 thread is pretty convincing.

Thanks John! Y

eah, I've read that one (and the "Family of seven" one recently) pretty carefully. The PC-12 is a beast (in a great way)! I'm looking mostly at that vs. a KA vs. maybe a 441 (just posted a thread on how to get from 250 hours to one of those birds in PlaneTalk...).

I'd be pretty dang happy in any of them. :D

Best,
Matt
