Ahoy.

Been flying GA since 1998. I got my ratings in college (go Illini!) and then moved onto active duty Air Force to fly the mighty KC-135 for two assignments. I'm currently living in St. Louis flying the C-40 out of Scott AFB.

I hope to transition to the Reserves/Guard in a year or two and get hired by a major and then maybe slightly down the road owning an airplane will make financial sense.

Until then an airplane still is one of those "F's" I've been told is always cheaper to rent.

Welcome! Good plan! Don’t delay that jump to the majors any longer than necessary. There used to be a wormhole called “Palace-Chase” that allowed some of my contemporaries serve the balance if their commitment in the reserve or guard. Also, as your rank increases, there is a scenario where the hiring team at the reserve/guard unit feels professionally threatened. As you probably know, pay and quality of life are decided by seniority and every number counts. I can’t place the C-40.

Either that or he's got a really cool L12 type rating.
