Hello everyone. Great forum here and information. I am based near PWK (north of Chicago). I'm in the market for a SE plane that can fill 4 seats and cover 1,000 nm trips. I ruled out an early Malibu based on my mechanic's estimate of high maintenance costs, annual training requirements and lack of local hangar to fit 43ft wings. A Saratoga is a great hauler but not efficient enough from both speed and fuel burn perspective. I'm down to either an Ovation with a 1k useful load or an A36 Bonanza. I have Ovation time but never flown or even been inside an A36 which makes it difficult to consider the A36. I was wondering if anyone knows of someone in the area who could introduce me to an A36 or even take me up for a quick ride. I'm also a CFI so maybe trade ride for a BFR?

Hi Chris and welcome to BT!

I would have liked the Malibu, you can't take it with you!

A36 will be more roomy and better for 4 adults + luggage than the Mooney. Sit in one, you'll see the difference. They have good economy for the amount of room, especially if you learn to run lean of peak.

They are expensive though, and so the acquisition cost could make other choices more attractive.

Many Bonanzas have tip tanks, and 1000 mile range is possible with the tips. Otherwise, you are looking at a fuel stop to make 1000nm. Few passengers want to sit still for 1000 nm regardless of fuel tanks.
