Hello,

My name is Bill Harris. I purchased a 83 Bonanza A36 in August of 2017 for my company. I have a great VFR pilot that just finished his BPPP a couple months ago and has started his IFR training I hope to earn my VFR rating in a few months if I get a favorable response from the FAA on the 3rd class medical.

I am hoping to learn a lot from you guys in the near future !!! I have never understood why adding gross weight as in tip tanks increases your useful load since you are actually loading the plane more. Maybe it is all in the paperwork and / or classification of the plane.

Best Regards,

Bill Harris

Ya know- the best seat in the airplane is the front left seat.... (oh- good luck. Been there on the “waiting on the FAA to decide” part).

Bill,

I have a V35 Bonanza at the same airport as you. For your medical, in Memphis I'd highly recommend Dr. Gerald Bock whose office is in Germantown. 901 754 6733. Aviation medicals are his whole business.

Good luck with your flight training! I had a great experience with Ed Scanlon who is your local BPPP instructor in Memphis. You can PM me for his info. If you're doing any business flying or really any flying on a schedule, you're wise to make sure your pilot can fly IFR.

To give a quick answe on the tip tank question, the Bonanza is certified in the Utility category which as higher G-limits. The STC to add tip tanks reduces the category to Normal which has lower G limits. The same structure can take more weight at reduced g loading. Voila, the magic weight increase.

Feel free to PM me any time, I'd be happy to share any expertise I've gained in owning a Bonanza.

Thank you very much for the warm welcome !!
It is much appreciated. Ed Scanlon helped with the preflight inspections and purchase negotiations of N6725V. Also, we used Ed for the BPPP training. Ed is a super great guy, a wealth of knowledge, a heck of pilot instructor, and just an overall great person.

I do appreciate all the well wishes on the medical and information on the useful load. Thanks for the information on the AME as well. However, I used a recommended cardiologist in Memphis that is an AME. Fingers crossed!!

Hi Bill,

I am on the other side of the river from you (FYE) and recently purchased my A36TC for personal use.

I am nearing the mandatory furlough age of 65 from Delta Air Lines and we wanted some type of transport that would take us to see grandkids and small excursions to warmer climates.

We are always looking for excuses to fly, so if you are looking for buddy planes to join you in a $100 hamburger, let us know.

The Beech Talk is a VAST sea of knowledge... believe me if you have a question.. there is someone with the correct answer. I also recommend joining the ABS.

We are headed to OSH this summer and will make the trek to Rockford, IL to join the group formation arrival. Training is scheduled for this spring at Columbia, MO.

Stay warm,

Rusty Bliss

Say - you are close enough to get on Andy's mailing list of $100 hamburger runs. (Ok, many are going for green eggs and ham...) Although things won't get moving until March - too cold for most.

Drop him a note Andy Anderson andya@diamondcity.net

Welcome bill and glad to hear you're already doing the BPPP and IFR training! Both are invaluable and great knowledge to have

I'm up in Nashville (KMQY) I'm a '68 36 TN Bonanza. Give me a shout if you ever head up this way. Hope you enjoy the Bonanza and post some pics up if you can!

Welcome to BT and enjoy the new plane.

Maybe we need to organize a Memphis get-together. I’ve been partners with Ed for 3 years in our S. Being partnered with a BPPP instructor can spoil you!
