Hello Everyone!
Long time lurker, first time poster.
My name is Duane Bates, based out of Grosse Ile Airport in Michigan. A beautiful island in between the mainland and Canada situated in the Detroit River where it joins Lake Erie.
I’ve had my ticket since 2006. Until June of 2017 I always rented or borrowed planes to fly. Last June I stumbled across the opportunity to get into a 1966 V35 and the price was right so I pulled the trigger.
Had great fun over the summer and early fall putting about 60 hours on the tach. I LOVE my Bo!
Although I was aware there were several little maintenance items needing attention I deferred those items until the annual, which is in progress now. With the help of my local BPPP certified instructor/A&P/IA/walking Beech encyclopedia/aviation guru, we have been tearing the plane down performing a super comprehensive annual. Doing so as well as reading every page of the logs we’ve determined that the bird has been neglected so to say for many years, receiving “rubber stamp” 4 hour annuals. I’m not cool with packing my kids in any aircraft that that hasn’t had the attention she deserves, so she’s getting that attention now, and then some!
Once we have everything buttoned back up and the WX is warm enough outside to give her a bubble bath I’ll post a pic.
I’ve learned a ton from this community on a variety of subjects including maintenance, best practices and aircraft ownership in general. Thanks Everyone!
Looking forward to becoming a contributing member of this great community, you guys are awesome!
Duane

Hi Duane and welcome to BT! Sounds like you are doing the right thing this annual and just getting things put in order. Might be a bit painful, but after the money is all paid out, you should have a great time. Looking forward to pictures later.

Thanks Bob!
It was snowing here yesterday. When I left the hangar last night at 3am I drove down taxiways alpha and Charlie as well as the full length of 17/35 (while announcing my position using the handheld of course) and there was 2-3 inches of snow accumulated by then, but it stopped falling by then. The township usually does a pretty good job of cleaning up the runways, alpha and Charlie as well as a path to the fuel farm and FBO the following day. I wouldn’t try any of the taxiways other than alpha and charlie though, sometimes they forget to do those.
I would call Debbie at the FBO before you depart though, she can give you a status report. 734-692-6424

That’s awesome Bill! I’d love to take a look at your B model to see the differences.
If you can make it down we’re gonna have a little luncheon at the FBO @ ONZ on the 17th of Feb. still in the works so if you’re interested let me know and I’ll pass along all the details as I find them out.
Duane

Duane, Welcome to BT, and congratulations on your new family member You sound like you are a meticulous person. You will make a great owner/operator. It really pi55es me off that people let these birds deteriorate by deferring, or should I say passing on maintenance. If you are looking for a great way to meet some BTers, join a bunch of us in Knoxville, in May. Just click on the event in the calendar, and sign up for the event.
