Hello everyone. I'm a student pilot with about 14 hours. I've soloed a couple times and just did my first dual cross country.
Still trying to figure out whether to buy or rent initially. There don't seem to be many rental options in my area other than a 172. Long term I would like to own as we have family scattered across the southeast between 275-350nm. I'd love to turn a 9 hour car ride into a 3 hour plane ride. Family of 4 with a current weight around 475 lbs but that will increase as the girls get older.
Site was recommended by a friend with a Sundowner so I've been lurking occasionally to see what I can learn about airplane ownership.
Paul

Welcome, Paul! We were all students, once! But then again, all Pilots are Students ALL THE TIME! Owning is a great feeling. It's nice to be able to slide behind the yoke and find that no one's touched the settings, caused unknown damage, or run the engine the wrong way... But it's expensive, so don't go into it thinking you're going to save money. You're paying for the convenience and the passion, not economy... Here's a great read on the topic of owning: https://smile.amazon.com/Buying-Owning- ... and+owningBest wishes with your PPL and your search! Keep us posted and don't be afraid to ask questions! You'll find no end of opinions in these pages, but an awful lot of experience and educated feedback! Doc
