Hi fellow pilots,

about 4 years ago me and my family looked into the purchase of a Beech Debonair. This is why I registered with BT. However, we did not buy the plane and although reading a lot in this forum, I didn't feel the need to contribute much, as I had never flown a Beech aircraft. Now, this has changed as I have (albeit a tiny) share in a 1947 Beech Model 35 that we took delivery on last weekend. Now, that I have flown a Beech - and despite it's reputation, the Model 35 handling qualities and performance still managed to amaze me - I think it would be time for a short introduction. (My only interaction on BT so far was a very nice purchase of a very nice dual yoke from Don Shade :-) )

I am a flight instructor in North-West Germany and currently writing my masters thesis as an aeronautical engineer about the optimisation of hydrodyamic characteristics of small flying boats. Furthermre, I work as an aerospace engineer in aircraft certification and I mainly prepare and perform flight tests and evaluation flights, material testing and development and correction of flight manuals. I own a Lake Buccaneer and a Ka1, a vintage glider. My parents met through aviation and so I was raised at the airport - soloing the ASK13 at an age of 13 back in 1995. Both are flight examiners. My wife has her PPL, too. The family owns a C172b (that we occasionally rent out to close friends), a Jodel DR250 Capitaine, a Morane MS894A Minerva (that we use for aerotowing) and a Ka2b vintage glider. Over time, planes sum up, if you have the space :-) My father was an A&P/IA (or: the german equivalent) and together we do most of the maintenance work on our planes ourselves.

The Model 35 is mainly owned by close friends, an other aviation family with whom we share pretty much all our aircraft. (So a Bölkow 208, Scheibe SF23, Cessna 172D, Morane MS883, Cessna 310Q and now the Model 35 add to the aircraft I regularly fly).

The Bonanza recently added to the fleet was the first one to be flown and registered in Germany. She has the E185-8 engine and still the V_NE restriction to 145 mph. We will perform the AD in winter, I guess. We got her with a new prop on last Thursday and after a brief introduction we flew it for the first cross country to Mannheim on Friday to retrieve our Cessna 172B. During these two days the aircraft has been flown longer than in the past two years together. She has quite a few minor squawks and she will get the TLC she deserves (at last :-) )

Here is a clip of the flight home from Mannheim.

That's an amazing background Malte, and you have an aviation family and fleet that is the envy of any GA pilot who loves to fly. Welcome to BT!

Alright, that's it - time to talk to my wife about a vacation to Germany! I do know that is some beautiful country you are flying over.

Congrats on the -35!

Yes, you should. Germany - or Europe as a whole - has much to show for a flying visitor. I have some pictures in my report when I flew to the Aero last year (although not in a Beech...): http://mhoeltken.blogspot.de/2016/09/to ... mpass.html

Have some more pics to intensify your travel wishes :-)
