I believe it was mentioned on The Troll Thread that we should have proper introductions…including pictures. I jumped on here last September(ish) when looking for a new plane and have asked a few questions and posted some responses but didn’t officially introduce myself. So here it goes.

Michael Mahoney from Redmond, Wa. Private pilot in 1999 and owned a T-206H that suffered the Lycoming crank recall (twice!) then owned another T-206H with a friend that suffered the Lycoming crank recall (twice!) after we sold mine and then it suffered a catastrophic oil pump failure. Got my instrument / commercial in the 206 then spent time in an A36 while the engine was out of the Cessna (on Lycoming’s dime no less!). Finally gave up on the single engine for perceived safety of a twin and flew a Seneca V for 400hrs and loved everything about it except the expense.

Had to give up flying in 2008 for various reasons and in October 2016 I bought N9086S a 1978 F33A because my old partner wasn’t ready to buy-into flying again…yet. Great plane and I’m really enjoying it but probably would have gone TN-A36 if my friend was with me.

My son was 3 years old when I bought the 206, so he got the bug early. Guilty as charged! He’s currently working on his CFI at Big Bend Community College in the middle of Washington State. The other day, he asked me for the keys for the weekend…and he wasn’t talking about the car! Brings a whole different meaning to the situation. The first picture is him taking off from Paine Field on a gorgeous morning this Tuesday, heading for school and a great Memorial Day weekend of flying ahead of him.

I have a daughter as a junior in high school/ freshman in college doing Running Start. She has no interest in flying but enjoys going along for the ride. We flew the Bo to the Grand Canyon for spring break and enjoy our time together. I was worried that living alone with her would be an awkward dynamic based on how things were before my son left for college, but we’ve been building a life-long relationship that could not have happened otherwise.

I’m happy to be flying again and appreciate the brain trust and humor here. Be safe. Have a great weekend!

Michael Mahoney

Nice F33A. I was just up in your neck of the woods last weekend.

See you around Cascadia.

G'day Michael, and welcome to BT. Love the photos and I laughed when your son asked for the keys.

Michael, Steve Busby here. Just noticed your message from 2018 - again I guess.

sbusby@gami.com. 405.630.0165 It's so cool that you have an F33. You have to drop in here at Ada if you ever fly it over to this side of the Rockies. i'll give you a tour of the skunkworks here at GAMI.

I 'd love to visit and catch up. It's been 45 years !!!! Good looking boys. I've got 5 kids - 6 grand kids at this point. Time flies!

Check in, my friend.
