I think I may be joining your ranks as a Beechcraft owner!

I went to go look at an s35 yesterday and I really like the plane. I'm looking for something to complete my IR training in and use as a cross country machine. I do a little bit of traveling for work and all of my family lives between 500 and 700 miles away.

Sounds like an S model would be great for your flying mission.

So,

you took a "look" at the plane. Then what?

Well after cleaning the drool off of the hanger floor...

Couldn't fly it yesterday, hoping to find some time this week to go back with a friend that knows more about bonanzas than I do.

Jonathan, I transitioned from a C172 to the Bonanza at about 300 hours and found the entire experience very straight forward and enjoyable. Have fun!

Welcome to the initiated, Jonathan!

Why not use the time to plan a pre-buy inspection? I have a feeling that there's nothing you're going to learn in the test flight that will change your mind, only reinforce it...

Best wishes with your new S - post pics when you close the deal!

It’s not the original S that I was looking at, but closed on this V35B yesterday:

WOW! That's a beautiful V! Let's see some more pics! Congrats! You are going to love your own personal airliner! I've loved mine for over 15 years!

As others have indicated I predict you'll enjoy this airplane immensely. And you'll enjoy it even more if you can take the time to learn the ins and outs of flying a Bonanza and operating a "big bore" Continental. For the former there are at least three choices:

1) Hook up with a BT Mentor in your area.
2) Sign up for BPT training.
3) Join ABS and take advantage of their BPPP program.

For the latter there are only two good choices:

1) Attend the next APS event in Ada.
2) Take their online course if you don't have time to go to Ada.

I'm glad you're working on your IR. The utility of an airplane like a Bonanza it considerably greater if you're instrument rated and it's a good place for the training as well.

If this is your first retract I strongly recommend you:

1) Fly to and land at every airport within 50 miles (further if the number that close is less than 10) a couple times with a competent CFI.

2) Get in the habit of checking that the gear is down at least three times in the pattern before landing.

3) Don't do any touch and go landings in the Bonanza (ever).

4) Never touch anything on the panel after landing (especially the flap switch) until you are stopped.

5) Practice extending the landing gear manually (after learning the proper procedure) at least once. Pay special attention to the part where you pull the gear motor CB and the part where you stow the handle when finished.

With the world's greatest intentions....Pre Buy, Pre Buy & Pre Buy. It is the best money you will spend over the next 24 months. Give us a geographic region and we can suggest some Bonanza savvy mechanics to give her the once over.

Happy for you Dude!! Living the dream!!!

Congratulations! It's a beautiful looking plane. Let's see more pictures and update your aircraft info to include along with your C172.

I'm afraid that ship has sailed ("closed on this V35B yesterday"), hopefully with a clean bill of health from a competent mechanic. :cross:
