Hello all, My name is John Fleming, and I hail from Timmins, Ontario, Canada. For those that don't know, that's in Northern Ontario - 48º28'52.11" N 81º19'57.57" W to be exact (my house). And yes, it's cold here. Two days ago it was -37c without the wind chill. It's a nice warm -17c today. Almost shorts weather. I do not have an aircraft, or even a pilot's license. Not for a lack of trying. Many years ago, I just never managed to finish my flight training. That's a story to tell later. I love flying, and don't get to do it very often unfortunately. My main way of satisfying my love of aircraft and flying is via scale modelling. That's the main reason I have signed up here. I'm hoping this community spread far and wide would be able to help me. Not sure where to post my request for info, still trying to get the lay of the land here. I am currently scratch building a 1/24 Beech 18. I so wish very much I had access to an actual airframe, but, no such luck. And because of that, I am missing a lot and info I need. Ugh! So, who can fly in to Timmins (YTS) with their Beech 18, and leave it in my driveway for a few weeks or so??

Welcome John! I satisfied my dreams of flying with radio control aircraft for many years as well. It is a fantastic hobby especially with scale model aircraft. Below is one of my favorites, a 127" wingspan DHC-2. I just realized I've had this thing for yellow airplanes for a lot longer than I remembered!

Thank you all for the warm welcome. Username Protected wrote: I satisfied my dreams of flying with radio control aircraft for many years as well. I just realized I've had this thing for yellow airplanes for a lot longer than I remembered! No RC for me. When I was 10 or 11, I spent a bazillion hours building a Guillows F-4U for free flight. It did not end well. So, only static models for me since. I haven't finished anything in a really long time. I make my living designing/manufacturing scale models (mostly Science Fiction). So most of my time is spent doing that. And I have to admit, I think I enjoy designing them just a little bit more than building them. (maybe that's just what I tell myself to justify the fact that I have not finished anything in a long time ) The Beaver is one of my all time favs. I have spent many an hour in one of those. God I miss those days. I have a couple of them in 1/24 (the old Canadian Mist Whiskey promo piece). As a promo, it's the best representation of the plane I have seen. Sure, it has it's faults, but it's the best over all (with the exception of NO interior of any kind). My plan (I have many), is to make a whole series of 1/24 private plane kits. Sure, you can get a bunch in 1/48, but they are very basic, and small, showing no detail. Even in 1/24, most are still pretty small. I started with the Beech 18 for no particular reason, I just like it a lot. But I am working on Cessna 150/152/172, Piper J-3,PA-18, PA-25, PA-28, PA-31 (-350). The 172 is most likely the next on the bench. For the Beech 18, what I need is someone who has pretty much unrestricted access to the aircraft, and is also willing and able to take pictures and measurements from it. I'm a stickler for detail (sometimes a good thing, but can really slow down a project). Anyone have an R-985 apart on the bench?? Looking to make a nice computer model and then have it 3D printed. There are no models of the R-985 in 1/24 (or 1/32 either). The Beaver I have has one, but it's just a very simplified front view. No real detail.
