for Mark Vining:

First of all welcome. Glad you choose to join us.

Suggestion: Many here take pains to accurately identify their planes. Perhaps you would consider identifying your plane (to other Beech owners anyway) as a V-tailed D35 Bonanza, or as simply a D35. To identify it as a V35 would mean to most of us that it is a 1966/1967 V-tailed Bonanza.

Please remember we are not being snobs as to what someone owns. It is because if you ask for advice it is important for others to know what it actually is. There were/are many differences from model year to model year in some cases and none in others.

I am the former owner of a 1955, F35, D-4078 (a V-tailed Bonanza).

Great suggestion, thanks. I will be soliciting all of you for advice and it would probably be helpful if you knew what I was flying.

My name is Phil Thomas. Been flying on/off since 1980, mostly in Cessnas. Aquired about 700 hours and a CFII rating.

I've worked in the auto industry as an engineer for the past 20 years. Have admired Bonanzas for at least 25 years. Always wanted to own one.

Hello all....

Cool forum! Just ran into it through Northwest Bonanza Group. My name is Mike Elliott, and I'm on my second Bonanza...first was a "G" model I restored and owned from 1994-2005, and then I sold it and bought an "S" model a year ago. More payload, and speed, and better avionics.

I own a few small marine businesses in Seattle, and my wife and I are living the dream in an Air Park north of Seattle (Frontier Air Park) and just built our home and hangar here last year. What a treat it is to walk across the driveway to my plane!

Instrument rated with 900 hours and we love long cross country trips...and will be heading to Florida in a couple of months (I need an IPC--not current).

I look forward to sharing ideas, stories, etc. in this forum and learning from everyone...because one thing I've learned is that I'm alwasy learning something new while flying.

As half the board just turned a lovely shade of envy green... just beautiful Mike. Welcome to the board!

Great site! Long overdue! My name is Jerone Kennedy. I was bitten by the aviation bug back in 1999. It occurred during a sight-seeing flight in a C-172, over Lake Superior, with a guy named Orville (really, that was his name!). Prior to that, all of my hands-on flight time had been at the yoke of a Microsoft Flight Sim program. Presently, most of my flying is for pleasure, and as a diversion from my other passion...Neurosurgery. I live in St. Paul, MN, and hangar at KSGS. I've got a little over 1000 hours total time, the past 450 hrs or so in a 1979 Baron 58P, which I've owned for the past four years. Prior to that I flew a 1976 Bonanza A36 for about two years. My first plane was a 1968 Cherokee 180D, which I bought two weeks prior to taking my Private Pilot checkride on a cold, wintery day in February 2001. I completed instrument training and the instrument ticket in the Cherokee in 2002. I flew the Cherokee, and then the Bonanza, all over the country, in often challenging weather. After an attention-getting icing encounter over the Appalachians while descending near Leesburg, Virginia, and after a low approach over the Everglades with my trusting wife and kids on-board a few months later, I came to the realization that system redundancy and known-icing capabilities would likely make cross-country travelling a bit safer for all of us (or at least less stressful). Shortly thereafter I was fortunate to meet a local corporate pilot who was preparing to retire, and who wished to move back to an A36. After actually getting the insurance guys to give me a quote for insurance for the 58P (at that point I had no multi-engine time...don't ask me what the quote was...it's too painful to recall!!!), the corporate pilot and I swapped planes. Then off I went to ALL-ATPS for the multi rating...then SimCom initial training...then 50 hours of dual...then 25 hours solo, in the 58P.
Again, thanks for setting up this site. I look forward to another great year of flying, and another great year of participating in the aviators brotherhood :-)

Greetings all. My name is Dave Kalwishky and I own a very nice 182 :) I only have a couple of hours in V tailed bonanzas so not much flight experience.

I almost bought into an A36 partnership two years ago but once I got into the plane and put a head set on I had to recline the seat just to keep from hitting the ceiling. Not a comfortable way to fly so I went with the 182.

Since the panel shot was taken I have added an Electronic Instruments UBG16 engine analyzer.

Hello,
...been on the site for a while. Fly a 1980 A36...thought I was buying the plane I was going to fly forever as two years ago I had four kids and they all fit...since, had a fifth and looking at twins a bit. Good site...a little less uptight than the Beech Owners List and doesn't clog your E-mail. Added a JPI700 and Castleberry AI since these pics.

My name is Nate, and I am a Bonanzaholic...

I am glad I have found a site with other twelvesteppers!

I started flying at the age of eleven with my Dad who owned a few Super Cubs, and flew the bush in Alaska for a time. Needless to say, he thinks I have a screw loose for wanting to fly "something that big, heavy and fast". My reply: "If its not big heavy and fast, whats the point?" SPEED BABY!

As a kid I always saw the Bonanza pilots and their planes and thought "one day..." They just seemed to have so much more class than the ragwings I was brought up on. I still have a very soft spot for Super Cubs though.

I flew several planes before deciding on the Bonanza. I flew Mooney's (too small and limited load capacity), Commanders (limited parts and support, also underpowered), Arrows (not enough "pizazz") and Diamonds (the wheels wont come up :o ).

I finally found my dream girl! She is a 1965 S35. All I ever wanted and more! Fast, looks good, hauls allot and VERY well mannered. She and I have flown all over the Southeast and some of the Mid West. She has never left me stranded, or done anything to make me doubt her. She gets the best of everything!

Beechcraft is certainly the pinnacle of quality and attention to detail. This brand leaves all of the others far, far behind.

A short anecdote:

While at the Beech tent as OSH last year they had a 1947 Bonanza in front. While I stood there admiring her a non-pilot came up to me and asked "is this a new plane they are coming out with? When can I get one?" All I could say was "aint she perty?"

I dont think we will be saying that about the "plastic fantastics" in sixty years...

Good Morning Everyone

My name is Don Lawrenz. I presently own a great 1982 58P Baron. I previously owned a D-55 Baron for 12 years, and prior to that a Cessna 172 and a 206. In addition to being SEL, MEL, and Instrument reated I also have my A&P License. I enjoy keeping my plane in tiptop shape almost as much as flying it.

I am based at KDWH near Houston, TX and also have a hangar/base at 5R4, Foley, Alabama. I've used my planes for pleasure, with a little business mixed in, for many years. All of them have been great stress relievers and time machines to boot!

My current P Baron is really a traveling machine. It fits nicely into my retirement and graduation into grand-dad hood. We have flown all over the US, with the exception of the NE, which we plan to remedy later this year.

If you're coming through KDWH let me know, I know a great place (or 2) for lunch!

Hello Don,

Welcome to the other Beech forum!

I used to fly into Hooks a lot, years ago when I did business out of Jacksonville, TX, KJSO.

If you are going to the northeastern US, I recommend Bar Harbor Maine and Acadia National Park as "must see". Great airport, scenery, food,...etc.

The Bar Harbor Inn is hard to beat.

If you need a real Time Machine, the P Baron will fit your pistol. If you've never flown much within a pressurized, high altitude environment, you will discover that the P Baron will open up a new way of flying that gets over weather and allows trips you'd previously scratch your head about. You will see a great number of comments to the effect 'turbocharging is only needed in the mountains'. Wrong answer. Houston is not mountainous last I checked, and the additional capability offered by high altitude flight is something I use on any trip longer than ~ 1 hour.

Check out the W&B spreadsheets under the Twins section for additional info. Be happy to answer any questions you have.
