Thanks Robert,

I've seen a few derogatories about the E series engines and only praise for IOs.
What is the difference in fuel consumption? Anything over 200hp that gives me four hours of range is all that I need in a leg.

I'm not crazy about the big third window that was standard by the M. I don't mind the small one but prefer none which seems a little harder to find as the large window seems to have been retro fitted on many early models along with the one piece w/s.

You might think about a P model. I consider the P to be the first modern Bonanza.

You should be able to find one with a two piece winshield as the P was the last model to leave the factory with the two piece. Additionally, the P was the first model to include the factory center stack instrument panel and the modern 80 gallon fuel system. This model houses an IO-470 making 260 hp. The IO-470 is highly regarded by many.

It sounds like you prefer the "old school" airplanes, but don't overlook the P.

Robert

Actually, my S model came from the factory with the split windshield. I had the one-piece mod done about ten years ago.

Larry Ball's book says the one-piece was introduced by the factory with the V model in 1966.

BTW, I had a P model before my S and I loved it. Teardrop back window, original paint job, it was very retro.

How long were the legs eastbound? Also do you have an aux tank in the back?
Thanks
Mark

Mark~ 50 gallons total, 20 per wing and and a 10 gallon aux aft. We flew conservative 3.5 hour legs and were burning 10 gph boxed at 2200 rpm and 2200 inches. We cruised at 13.5k and indicated 160-180 kts over the ground (600nm) until we got east and did several shorter hops into weather.

Thanks for the report
I'm in annual this summer and getting into engine leaks, OH mags etc. I can't wait for some long runs as well.

Here is a flight profile~ you can see how much I had to divert for weather in the Midwest and East. In hindsight should have pushed on at night a little. Good luck with your annual.
