Hi there I am new to beech talk. I am looking at buying either and F-33 or V-35 when I move to the lower 48. Any tips on pre-buy would be fantastic.

Welcome to BT, John. You may know this, but I'm still going to bet you didn't mean that you were only looking for a 1970 F33 or a 1966-67 V35. Those were the only years those models were built. The F33 series models (F33, F33A, F33C) were built between 1970 and 1994, while the V-tail Bonanzas were built between 1947 and 1982. John Eckalbar's books on Bonanzas are great resources for information on specific models.

Don, you're starting to worry me buddy, it's Larry A Ball who wrote the books chronicling the history of the different model and year Bonanzas. John Eckalbar's books show you how to fly them. All these books are available from the American Bonanza Society.

First, it's F33 or V35, no dash. The basic v-tail type designation is 35 (BE35 to the ICAO) and the V35 is one short model run in the production of the BE35, after the '64-'65 S35 and before the V35A starting in 1968 (well, 67; my V35A is one of the first and was actually built in late 1967 but it's a "1968 model year"). If what you are looking for is a fairly modern type 35, all the IO-520 engined models pretty much fit the bill, which starts with the S35 but don't ignore older ones. A jewel of a J35 would be a better choice than a V35B (the last of the vtail breed) with lots of deferred maintenance and dragons lurking. Tips on prebuy is your actual question... if you've not joined the ABS, I'd suggest that first, which gives you full access to the excellent ABS website, bonanza.. Then, depending on where the airplane you think you're interested in is sitting, go to the ABS listing of shops that are actually willing to do the spar web repairs... you will then have one of the most knowledgeable shops in the area. Calling up the ABS tech support line would probably also be a good bet for good info fast. Then there's Beechtalk, and also "the Beech list", http://www.aviating.com/mailman/listinfo/beech-ownersThe beechlist has a number of very interesting and distinguished regulars, and is well managed. Arguably more signal to noise than forums can muster. I found my prebuy shop by asking the Beech List and the shop, acceptable to me and the seller, was about halfway between my location and his. The #1 tip for a prebuy is... don't use a mechanic the seller knows and recommends, and it's amazing how often this is done with the buyer wondering what hit them when their own mechanic performs an annual inspection and finds what the first mechanic didn't want to find. Caveat Emptor.

Welcome Jake. ABS has a very thorough pre-buy checklist. It was very helpful in my purchase. viewtopic.php?f=7&t=77758&p=921057
