I am Rusty Weil an airline pilot based in SFO. When not flying 767s, I fly little airplanes all I can. I have owned 3 Cubs including a J-2 with 40hp, my dad's 182, and an Ercoupe. I currently have the J-3 I acquired when I was 16. I have flown many Beechs including Models 17, 18, 19, 23, 24, 33, 35(B,F,N,S), 36, B-55, B-80, and straight 90. My favorite Bonanza by far is my friend's S-35 with a 550. What a rocket! I am also a CFI and my friend wanted me to join so I could express my opinion on interesting topics. I have a different take on things and hopefully can provoke lively discussions. For instance, I think flaps cause many accidents as in all cases they are drag. General aviation planes seldom see more than a 10 knot reduction in stall speed with the use of flaps. I used to show students they could fly away in a stall recovery even with the flaps retracting. On old 172s I would pop the manual flaps up on a go-around and teach them not to lose a inch of altitude but to start climbing right away. Of course if your are right at the edge get some speed but get rid of the flaps as soon as possible. The change in attitude is what's hard to adjust for. Anyway, I hope to hear from everyone and enjoy those Beechcrafts. Someday for me...

Jeeez guys, I am sorry I have not been around. My SFO base closed and now I must commute to LAX. It's a long trip in the Cub, and flying final next to an Airbus A-380 is scary. JUST KIDDING! I drive to San Jose and take an airline down there. Anyway I ended up being offline for a while but I am back. Now to get involved!
