I have been educating myself with this forum for months now and this is my first post. What a magnificent resource! I am a 200 hr IR pilot and am starting to think about a Bo. I am in the middle of a large home renovation and an expensive plane isn't in the cards now. I am an orthopedic surgeon and love to travel and play golf in great places. I hope you guys don't mind my inquisitions as I look for a plane.
Thanks again for all of your expertise! I'm not even sure if I am posting this correctly. I guess I will find out shortly.

I am from Richmond, VA (KFCI). I am in a flying club now, but hope to get a plane soon. My plan would be to buy an older plane and fix it up over time as I can afford.

Hello Paul, welcome., I did just that yesterday (bought an older plane and will gradually update it) What really helped me to cut through the clutter of all the planes for sale out there on trade a plane or controller, was to create a matrix with all the pertinent data. It makes it somewhat easier to compare on an apples to apples basis. Once I established my budget, I downloaded all the planes that fell in to that category in to my matrix. Total time, time since overhaul, and equipment were in my matrix as I was thinking about eventual resale and since I want to make IFR cross country trips. Good luck in your search. In the mean time, fly lots and build up your hours. Total log time, total retractable time and total time in type will greatly affect your insurance rates.

Welcome Paul. I just flew into St. Augustine after work yesterday to spend the weekend at the World Golf Village. My advice: Skip the house...buy the plane...and enjoy every minute of it!!! Oh, and PICTURES (anything aviation related even if you have to lie about the stories...most on here do anyway).

Thank you all for your input. I will keep you posted. Unfortunately the house is under way, so can't go back.

Paul, Welcome to BT. I share your interests.... Flyin and Golfin. Luckily for you, me and others, there are plenty here that suffer from the same afflictions. Rumor has it there are a few golf courses around here. Come down and visit us when you find time.

lots of nice courses down that way. Some great places to play up here as well. Love flying to the Greenbrier and the Homestead. Two of the places you can go that fully justify owning a plane. Might take you up on the Pinehurst trip. Have a great friend who lives in CCNC. Been down a few times to see him and always love the golf.
