Sorry if I spoke out of turn Tyler, I was commenting on travelling between countries since journeying between UK and mainland Europe is a normal event – indeed if you are based at an airport with customs, you don’t have to do anything other than file a flight plan and present yourself at the desk when you leave/return. If no customs at your airfield or private strip then just 2 hours notice is all you need to do. But if you are in US and wish to cross the border to Canada/Mexico/Cayman Islands or others in the non US Caribbean, is it that easy – I rather thought it was necessary to apply in advance – perhaps I was misinformed. But in every other respect USA is pilots heaven!

Who’s going to Oshkosh this year? I have booked the flight to O’Hare and the car hire – will be staying at Appleton University.

Ah yes, now I understand. Indeed, international operations with the U.S. is a pain. It's ok, but certainly went downhill from what it used to be. Customs/immigration/homeland security here has become rather draconian...it's sad really.

I originally thought you were comparing to travel within the United States, which remains a true delight. Hopefully we can keep it that way.

Now, how about bringing the Duchess of Kent to Oshkosh?

We lived in Dundee for a year and never did see too many GA planes in the skies. With the weather we experienced up north, I am surprised ALL UK pilots are not required to be instrument rated. We had only a few days with blue skies.
