Hello,
My name is John Greco and I am fairly new to Beech Talk. I did post last week that I was the pilot involved in the Young Eagle accident. I aborted the take off when I felt something was wrong and had their not been a forty foot drop after some level grass at the end of the runway their would have not been any injuries. As far as an introduction, I am 57, married thirty five years with two sons. I received my pilot's license in 1992 and instrument in 1997. I have owned two airplanes, the first was a 1975 Piper Archer and accumulated 600 hours in it before moving up to the F33A Bonanza in 1998. I have logged around 1700 hours in the F33A. I am recovering at home with a broken right wrist and right ankle. All the facial cuts have healed. I want to thank everyone that posted get well soon messages. The two passengers in the back had very minor injuries and the young man up front with me is expected to recover completely as I am. As I posted earlier in almost twenty years of flying I have not even come close to any accident or incident. I am struggling with and reliving the accident but feel fortunate that we all will recover. Should I get right back to flying as soon as possible? John Greco

John,

Welcome to BeechTalk.

While I have neither personally experienced an aircraft accident, nor am an expert in any sense, I would suspect that dealing with the aftermath and deciding when to get back in the air is a very individual decision. I do know that there are a number of BeechTalkers who have been through accidents and this is is very supportive group. I suspect there are BeechTalkers in and around Pittsburg who would be happy to take you flying when you are ready. The rest of us will likewise by happy to help however we can.

Drew

John.....
Sorry to hear about the accident. Not much more to say there but..... what you do in giving back in the Young Eagles program is great. I sincerely hope that you do not give up on charity flights. I spend ~ 50% of my flying in Grace flights. Its both rewarding for the patients and the pilot.
Keep up the good work, big guy. You are needed by both young and old.
Peter

I am a new member who who has inadvertently made a mistake by using all cap's. My apology to all, I recently was in an airplane crash and I have a broken right wrist that cannot move at all. That was the only reason I was using all cap's. Thank you Lance for letting me know. A rookie mistake and again my apologies. Sincerely John

Well a broken wrist is a pretty darn good excuse. :D

John,

Welcome to BeechTalk. Although you're coming aboard in difficult circumstances, It's great to have you here and please keep up the dialogue.

A couple of years ago my partner in the p-baron had an off-airport landing in his bonanza. He chose a good field and there were no injuries to speak of and the airplane was only lightly damaged ....but psychologically it wasn't so simple. Was it the perfect procedure, could he have done better, was there another option?

I think he handled it superbly. But he was the guy flying...the guy in the left seat. We all know what that means, and when you analyze yourself we all tend to be pretty critical. Don't be too hard on yourself and get back in the saddle when you're healthy.

Look forward to hearing more from you and, again, welcome.

Thank you Tyler for some good advice! I know aborting the take off was definitely the right choice especially knowing that we all will recover but I just not sure what happened. Again thank you. John
