Just joined BeechTalk; just found the group.
My very first plane ride was in a Bonanza V tail MANY, MANY years ago. I guess that's when I got "infected" by the "flying bug". I was way too young to start flying then, but when I was, I started working on my private license in the 11th grade. Didn't complete it though, money you know. Had to save some for college.
Went to college, was majoring in chemistry and minoring in biology and physics; was gonna be a high school teacher. Then I was talked into changing to getting a degree in Pharmacy. Transferred to Northeast Louisianna University in Monroe, LA to get that degree. During that time, I had a relapse of my "infection" and decided one summer to get my pilots license. If I wasn't in one of my labs in school, I was at the airport. I started taking lessons again and went over to Shreveport, LA and took the written and passed it easily. I then had to work on my hours. I later found out that my degree required a History class of some sort. I found out that NLU's Private Pilot 101 course counted as a history requirement and to pass the course I had to pass my written. I signed up for the class and never went but got an A; easiest A I ever got. LOL
One day, my instructor had to ferry a Bonanza A36 back to a doctor in Camden, Arkansas and asked if I wanted to go. I couldn't get in the plane fast enough! He let me fly it, but I was right seat and didn't get to log the time. My "fever" went off the thermometer and I have been in love with Bonanza's ever since.
Took my check ride in a Cessna 172 (I hope I can say there here, LOL) with Glen Baron in Farmerville, LA and got my license soon afterward.
During my Senior year, I joined the Alph Eta Rho aviation fraternity and we hosted a NIFA SAFECON (safety converence) in Monroe with about 800 college student pilots competing in flying events.
After graduation, my flying time drastically went down; just couldn't afford it. But, as time went on, my paid increased to where I could and started flying again and was on the Airport Commisson in Malvern, Arkansas for a few years. Then my work changed and my work schedule virtually stopped my flying. Unfortunately, I haven't flown in a while and I'm not current. BUT, that will change ASAP. I've had another "relapse", you see. I hear there is just no "cure", not that I ever want one.
Although I'm not an owner nor am I rated for complex, I'm with you guys in spirit and LOVE for the Bonanza. One day (come on lottery!) I will be.
Hope I haven't bored anyone with all this, but it's my memories and love and SO much want to be back in the skies.
May all of your sunsets be red, Steve

Stephen - I'm living proof that where there is a will there is a way to get back in the air....even in South Arkansas. Nice to hear of the familiar towns. Today I'm headed to my hometown of Camden for a long weekend. Curious to see who the flying Doc is/was. I wasn't able to endulge my passion until after college so I only know of a few pilots in town. Sad that we lost a great family friend and pilot a few weeks ago. I spent a few (too many) years attending an institution of higher education in Ruston, LA just down IH-20 from that junior college in Funroe . Welcome aboard!

Welcome to BT. From what others have stated and my limited experience the fever never fades. Tim
