I'll add my concern about using real names. I think that's what makes BeechTalk work. Posters think twice about what they post. (well, usually...)

But I do understand the immense workload of verification of real names.
Hi Mark,

Thanks for the input.

However, honestly, real name policies are only useful to the extent we can verify they are accurate and, as you mentioned, there is enormous workload associated with doing so. We simply do not have the capacity to implement it at Volo and Airport Nation.

That doesn't mean we will let them turn into the wild, wild west. :D :bat:

Correct. With the possible exception of the founders, jerks will still be shown the door expeditiously :D

Like my life has time for two of these forums :beechslap:
I'm in but I'm not sure how often I'll go check the site. An app that tells you if someone posted on airports you are interested in would be nice. Good luck guys.

Glenn, just 'subscribe' to the airports that you are most interested in--make sure your notification setting include an email.

To do it -- click 'Subscribe forum' in the lower left corner of the forum/airport of interest.

Also click the 'Notifications' link near the top right of the webpage and select 'settings' to ensure that the email box is checked for 'Someone creates a topic in a forum to which you are subscribed'.

No email for activation yet.......been about 30 minutes. Not sure if it typically takes longer than that.

Mike
Patience not my strong suit. I've made 'patience' a New Years resolution but it's ticking me off because it's not happening fast enough

Hi Jim,

The mobile version has simplified text (default phpBB software), but it is in the lower right expandable menu--when you're in the forum of interest, click the menu key in the lower right corner, and click the check mark icon to activate the subscription. Once it is activated, that icon will turn to a unsubscribe icon (box with X).

Please login or Register for a free account via the link in the red bar above to download files.

The subscribe feature definitely helps. With the number of airports, this looks to be a reference site for venturing to a new area, and perhaps a community site for those at home base. It will be interesting to see how the 'flow' develops.

I was not around for the start of BT (OK I existed, but did not know about the site.) It would seem that the main difference is that initially, in BT, people could rally around a particular topic and explore it even though there were not a lot of contributors. Here we are going to be all over the place (literally) as we connect to places of interest. I would guess a slower start to reach 'important resource' until the posts start to fill out the airport matrix, with some exceptions for airports with topics of general interest (such as, perhaps, Santa Monica.)

Good luck!

Site seems crazy slow. I know Jeff C worked a fair bit to make BT as fast as it is, but AirportNation could use some of that same magic... :)
