Wow! First, thanks, Jeffs. BT has been a big part of the lives of so many of us. We came for airplane content, but we found relationships and friends. If not for Beechtalk I wouldn’t be living on a grass airstrip at 5000 foot elevation with great friends. The Beginnings… I remember the discussions about starting this forum. Avweb and The Beech List — those that came before — were great, but clunky. I have a vague memory that the name may have been a spinoff from my fledgling radio show, Guntalk. Maybe “The Jeffs” can fill in the blanks. I do clearly remember suggesting (insisting?) that real names be required. I believe that has aided in keeping discussions largely civil. I hope so. As the second person to register as a BT member, 26 minutes behind The Great Captain Deakinsan, I have had a ringside seat to watch the growth and impact of this phenomenon. A huge THANK YOU to the two young men who didn’t have enough sense to know it couldn’t be done, and had no idea where it would lead them…and us. You guys deserve a break. But don’t be strangers.

Tom, thank you for being an integral part of the early days of BeechTalk. You were one of those that we personally invited to join--knowing you were a fount of information and well respected. Thank you! As for the name, Jeff and I were discussing it on the phone before we purchased the domain name and it was one of my suggestions--it actually came as a spinoff of the ol' Saturday Night Live skit, " Coffee Talk" (insert New York accent when you say it. ). This however was really driven by you and Walter Atkinson and it was a GREAT suggestion! When we instituted it on December 17, 2007 (you can still see it at the bottom of this BeechTalk News forum), we lost a few members that insisted on staying anonymous on the internet. I think it was well worth losing a few, as it certainly adds to civility and community at BeechTalk! Thank you! We appreciate you! Thank you ALL for your well-wishes. We TRULY appreciate them!!

After dinner and fun on Mike and Andrea's porch, about time to turn in, my wife looked at me with tears in her eyes and said, "these really are real friendships." Thanks, Jeff and Jeff, and so many others.

Thanks, Jeff and Jeff, and so many others. "Your little internet friends" is how many wives have referred to BTers, until we meet in person. A story. Years ago I was scheduled to do a keynote address in California. I posted a question about Sacramento on BT, and Mike Grommet ended up inviting my wife and me to stay with them. "Have you ever actually met these people?" asked Pat, my wife. Of course, I had not, but I knew them from Beechtalk, and as expected, the visit was great, and it eventually resulted with us moving to Idaho, living a few hundred yards from Mike and Andrea, who we count as among our closest friends. Pretty typical story here, but quite unusual in the "real world." Jeff and Jeff did that!

Of course you and Mike are both on that list.
