I notice he took off from a 12000 foot runway, wonder how much of it he used!

Sven, not to be off topic but I was looking at ventura keys marina property. It used to be an airport. I scrolled around a bit and found your remarks about your family and connection to aviation and conejo airport, Your dad kept his staggerwing there. Then the pic with 4 beech18's there. The site of filming in a mad mad mad world! Then your a car man too. Very interesting.

Is this the pressurized version or did he have to Haul enough Oxygen for the whole trip too?

Looks like he flew most of the way at 10,000 except for crossing the mountains, so maybe a small bottle would have been fine.

On March 7-8, 1949, William P. Odom set a light-plane, nonstop distance record from Honolulu, Hawaii, to Teterboro, New Jersey, in the Waikiki Beech (see markings on left side), the fourth Bonanza built.

It's in the museum at IAD.

Kudos to this guy, but Max Conrad's Comanche flight from Casablanca, Morocco to Los Angeles still amazes me. Not sure how many hours it was but it was over 7000 miles.

I met Bill a few weeks ago while in Manassas. He struck me as a very sharp and prepared individual. I think his next leg is to Guam. Then a non-stop leg from Guam to Orlando. Un-believable.

Twenty two hours and 15 minutes! I'm glad there are people like this in the world and I'm glad he made it!

I think the only way I could do it is with a spinal block...

Dave - your Internet research is accurate. My dad's old D17S Staggerwing is N9470H and is currently for sale on Controller - based in Chino, CA these days. He kept it at the Rancho Conejo Airport and at Santa Paula. I think he bought it in 1961 and sold it in 1977.
