Plane and Pilot did it again this month.
"Affordable Flying".
That's like picking up a Robb Report with a Prius on the cover.
Stop it!!!! If I wanted to do this on the cheap I'd fly commercial. I want to know about the latest and greatest, coolest and most expensive. Not the cheapest. I hate LSA's!!!!!!
I'm canceling my subscription!

LOL - it wasn't long ago there was a thread on another board someone was lamenting the magazines catered to the expensive stuff. They were going to cancel too. Bad time to be in the print business.

Stop reading P&P and start reading Flying. They'll tell you all about the stuff only 1% of the pilot population can afford.

I actually canceled a while ago, however 3 weeks ago they called me up and offered me 36 issues for $36. A buck an issue. I anted up. There has to be at least $1 worth of value in an issue.

Better yet, get P&P's sister pub Pilot Journal. Only a quarterly but the cheapest thing they've had on the cover lately is the Cirrus Jet.

I'm not implying I can afford the most expensive. I'm just saying that "the most expensive" is a hell of a lot more interesting to read about.
I'm not going to read an article about LSA's.

I'm not going to read an article about LSA's. Jason Why apologize, you are already flying a plane less than 1% of the flying population can afford. Russ

I got my P&P yesterday and felt the same way. They're just vanity presses chasing advertising dollars to the detriment of their subscribers....totally boring! I wish they'd get Ives to write their articles. It would sure be a lot more entertaining!
Did you notice the lack of ads in Flying magazine? This market is really getting rough.

Maybe so. But my airplane is probably the least expensive option to 99% of airplane owners.
Landing at PDK last night I taxied past rows of Lear 60's and G5's. I'm the little guy.

In Plane and Pilot's January 2003 issue editor Lyn Freeman wrote a seething op-ed piece entitled "I'll Take the Latex Gloves for $100, Please," that disparages chiropractic and alternative health care. I haven't touched that magazine since and won't. Flying is far better written and enjoyable.

If you sell a magazine, you have to fill the pages. Stuff is actually happening on the LSA front. What else are you gonna write about?
HBC's new P-Baron?
A pressurized TN Bonanza?
Another Pirep on the C172?

I don't know about the rest of you, but when I approach the transportation section of the Magazine stand at Borders or Barnes & Noble, I start to salivate. Then when I see LSAs on the cover, it's a huge let-down. Like expecting a ham sandwich and getting egg salad. Now I can get a little excited about some of the turbo-prop homebuilts out there

I think most of the makers will go TU, but at least there are a lot of new designs coming out.

Yes, there are a lot of new, slow and expensive designs coming out.
There's no way there's a market for these things. And don't tell me about the guys that can't pass a medical that just want to go fly around in the pattern every now and then. There aren't enough of them.
If I were going to fly "for fun", I'd get a Parasail. That looks fun. I can't imagine doing yet another fly by of Lake Lanier here in Atlanta in my LSA.
I love flying my Bo, but 75% of the enjoyment is "going somewhere".

That is why I still own my Quicksilver ultralight. Costs nothing to run and is the most fun you can possibly have... I can't count the number of times I've found myself at 700 feet flying into a spectacular sunset, just giggling with delight. An LSA-wannbe cruiser would be a BIG step down from that experience, even if you could make $200 hamburger runs with it. Who cares?
