My airplanes are covered by hangers in very clean conditions at all times. A fellow Bonanza pilot a few doors away came to me over the weekend to ask me to see what I thought of the feel of his elevators. He was loaded up and ready to take his niece back to college in North Carolina. When I lifted the elevator it seemed heavier than I am used to and we also heard a dragging noise inside the tail section. To make a long story short a mechanic found that there were two strands of wire left near the counter balance weights up front. There had been an electrical short or something similar to wear or weaken the cable.
I bring this up because I must admit that at times I have walked quickly around my airplane doing visual and minimal handling of control surfaces. There might have been a very bad accident if my friend didn’t do such a thorough inspection and it taught me that I must do proper due diligence no matter how much of a hurry I am in or thinking that just because the plane is in such a good environment that nothing can happen to it.

My aircraft is inspected in the hangar by me constantly, between flights. I am the only one who flys the plane, I find it very easy to keep the plane under constant preflight ready to pull from the hangar and go with confidence. Kind of like phase inspections on a turbine, never ending inspection and maint.
