Wow :bugeye:

I have so much respect for the people who build but it's just not something I'm equipped for. Beautiful work, I can only imagine the excitement as you wrap it up.

Nice!!

Your are going to love the G3X. You will find that you will use it's internal GPS and FMS instead of the GTNs. It is easier to use and gives you true VNAV flight profiles just like a G1000. If I had to do it over I would have installed a GTN600 instead of 650 and dual remote comms. I only use the GTN when I need to shoot an approach. You will see what I mean after you fly the system.

Also, to get weather on your right side PFD you have to Bluetooth link it to your GDL-39R. Traffic is automatically displayed through the CAN-BUS.

Brian,

Congrats. She looks great, and looks like you paid a lot attention to the details.
May I ask how much time you put into it?

Tim

12months- that's the total downtime I've tracked with all the upgrades, I bought her flying from the builder in July 2013, and since buying it its been in and out of several phases of upgrades and it's finally at the finish line and thankfully while gas is still cheap!

The original builder started in 2003 and finished in 2007 if that helps, 2400hrs of build time

I didn't enjoy ads-b weather on the old panel, xm weather is by far better resolution and quicker to update so I think I'll stick with it for the most part, I'll still check out the Bluetooth 39r thing

The antenna for the g3x was wired to the gdl39r and we had to reroute it to the screen so I am hoping the gdl39 gets the GPS source through the bus per the docs, should know soon when we fly it

We have an ADS-B antenna on our field, so I get instantaneous weather and traffic through the 39R and GTX23. The weather is up
dated every couple of minutes. Great system, full traffic, and free. No brainer.

Brian and Todd,

Thanks for all the updates on your respective projects! You guys do some inspirational work and make it IMPOSSIBLE to ignore the benefits of the experimental category aircraft.

I admire both of your projects and look forward to updates.

Someday when I have the know-how and experience I hope to consider one of these two makes very seriously. It seems you can get some serious bang-for-your-buck through buying/modifying your own home-built (if done safely, of course!).

Brian- what are the performance figures on the ES-TN?

Hard to beat the performance of the ES-TN, especially considering that the gear is down!! I feel that it is a better choice than the IV.

The big benefit to experimentals is definitely the avionics. I just wish the G3X would have been IFR certified for primary navigation. It is superior to everything else Garmin offers. The repairs are also generally cheaper due to the ability to use whatever parts will work or can be made. I still think that a normal aircraft engine is the way to go as most automobile conversion end up causing problems.

I really wish Lancair still made the ES. That is a really nice airplane.

I completely agree. It is a real treat to get to watch your progress. Both of you have beautiful aircraft!
